SOUND BISCUITS // EVAN MARKS OF THE ECOLOGY CENTER

Sound Biscuits Is Back.

This week, we handed the aux to Evan Marks, founder of The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano and one of Vissla's longtime Creators and Innovators. Evan's playlist, GD Forever, is exactly what it sounds like: an all Grateful Dead deep dive built for the true believers and the curious alike. Curated around the arc of a live show, from first set warmup to second set liftoff, this one is meant to be listened to start to finish. Press play, read what Evan had to say, and let it take you somewhere.

The Grateful Dead is a daily practice for me. A ritual that opens each day with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. This soundtrack, and their catalog, inspires me, while sharing critical insights to how the universe works.

There are countless seasons of this story. The music evolved nightly for 30 years. A living question of infinite possibility. Like the medicine that fueled the spirit of the Grateful Dead, alchemy was ever-present. A culture and community coming together around adventure, the unknown, and the pursuit of joy.

This playlist is a good entry for someone ready to open to the full Grateful Dead experience. The playlist is designed around the cadence and arc of a live experience. An experience, that invites you to listen from beginning to end.

The first set is a warming up, a weaving between band and audience. A storytelling. The songs grow from one another. I chose some of my favorite Jerry and Bobby songs that held the first set consistently.

The second set is a blast off. A deeper, richer, exploration into the cosmic space. We are then gently returned back on planet Earth with the knowing that it’s all going to be ok. The future is abundant!

I picked some of my favorite versions of the songs that wove this story over decades. These selections are all highlights of their 30 years adventure. Not the headiest playlist - but selections that will invite you gently into a beautiful new universe. Enjoy!
