Decision two: build
Fixed waist: a proper boardshort has a fixed waistband with a drawcord, no elastic. It stays put when a lip lands on you and never bunches under a leash or wetsuit.
Stretch: four-way stretch fabric moves with your paddle stroke and pop-up. More stretch generally means more comfort at the cost of a little durability, which is why our performance shorts balance both rather than chasing a stretch number.
