The Cosmic Countryman

Dan Severson Painted a Mini.
Here's How It Happened.

Every year, the Cosmic Creek Surf Festival needs a look. Event posters, board art, apparel graphics. It all has to feel like it belongs together. For 2026, we handed that job to Dan Severson and gave him one more canvas he wasn't expecting: a Mini Countryman.

The result is the Cosmic Countryman. And if you've seen it, you already know.

Who Is Dan Severson?

Dan Severson has been shaping the visual identity of surf culture for decades. He's a painter, an airbrush artist, and a co-founder of Severson Originals, carrying forward a creative lineage that runs deep in the sport. His uncle, John Severson, founded Surfer Magazine and essentially built the blueprint for how surf culture looks and feels. Dan has spent his career honoring that legacy while making it his own.

He's also a Vissla Creator and Innovator. That designation matters to us. It's not a title we hand out. It's reserved for people whose work genuinely moves surf culture forward. Dan's one of them.

The Build

The short film above follows Dan as he walks through the inspiration behind this year's Cosmic Creek artwork and brings it to life on the Countryman using his signature airbrush technique. A few minutes. No fluff. Just the process and the person behind it.

The work he put on that car belongs at Salt Creek and on the open road at the same time.

Cosmic Creek 2026

The Cosmic Countryman didn't exist in a vacuum. It was built as part of a full creative vision for the Cosmic Creek Surf Festival, from the event posters to the board graphics to the car itself. Dan's fingerprints are on all of it.

This Is Surf

Art, surfing, and a car covered in airbrush work by one of the culture's sharpest creative minds. That's the Cosmic Series in a sentence.
