      The Cure For Cold Water

There's nothing worse than duck diving into a brainfreeze. That's why we've built a solid offering of Hooded Full Suits that'll keep you warm in the coldest of conditions. Made with the same premium materials and insulation, with the added benefit of a built in hood to keep the cold out, and the heat in.

Vissla Hooded Full Suits: Cold Water Surf Wetsuits for Below 52°F

Below 52°F, a standard full suit is no longer enough for most surfers. The head and neck lose heat fastest in cold water — and a 5/4 without an integrated hood leaves you cold during January Pacific sessions that a hooded suit handles comfortably. Vissla hooded full suits integrate the hood directly into the suit, creating an unbroken warmth seal from wrist to ankle to the top of your head. No collar gap. No water surge on duck dives. No hood slipping mid-session.

Integrated Hood vs Separate Hood: Why It Matters

A separate hood creates a weak point at the collar where cold water flushes on duck dives. An integrated hood eliminates that gap — the hood and suit are one piece, sealing at the chin with minimal bulk above the waterline. For serious cold water surfing, the integrated hood is the correct standard.

      Cold Water Layering by Temperature

      • 55–52°F: 5/4 hooded full suit. Add 5mm split-toe boots for longer sessions.
      • 50–48°F: 5/4 hooded full suit plus 5mm boots and 3mm gloves. Gloves are the threshold for maintaining board feel at this temperature.
      • Below 48°F: 5/4 hooded full suit plus boots, gloves, and a separate hood layered over the integrated one. Full kit available at Cold Water Necessities.

Benefits of Vissla Hooded Full Suits

      • No Collar Gap: Integrated design eliminates the cold water flush point that separate hood and collar create on duck dives.
      • Extended Sessions: More head and core warmth than a standard 5/4 — longer, more comfortable cold water sessions.
      • Limestone S-Foam Neoprene: 200g less CO2 per suit than petroleum neoprene. Warmer and lighter at equivalent thickness.
      • 1-Year Warranty: Full seam and neoprene warranty. Six months on smoothy panels.
