Retro Surf Swap

Creators of yesteryear were celebrated at the Retro Surf Swap at Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast, Australia this past weekend.

All the boards were kindly provided by local collectors, resulting in a day full of surfers and surfboard collectors talking story and reviewing some early crafts from leading local and international shapers.

Boards on display ranged from pre-1960 Joe Larkin and Hayden logs through to single fins by Gerry Lopez and Terry Fitzgerald’s Hot Buttered and twin fins by Mark Richards, Ted Deerhurst’s Deerhurst Designs and Ben Aipa’s Aipa Surfboards.

Sitting alongside the heritage craft was a display of new surfboards from Haydenshapes, with the contrast in materials and shapes highlighting the progression and innovation in modern surfboard design.

Overall, the day highlighted the evolution of surfing, and the community that has been created over the years.

Special thanks to the even organizers: heritage surf retailer Beach Beat and supported by Vissla, Electric, Global Surf Industries and Haydenshapes.
